Latte

Latte

Caffè latte or just latte is a coffee beverage of Italian origin made with espresso and steamed milk. The term comes from the Italian "caffè e latte" which literally means "coffee and milk".

In Italy, caffè latte is almost always prepared for breakfast only. Unlike the "international" latte drink, generally, the milk in the Italian original is not foamed and sugar is added by the drinker, if at all. Outside Italy, typically a caffè latte is prepared with one standard shot of espresso and filled with steamed milk, with a layer of foamed milk on the top. In the USA and in global coffee shops such as Starbucks, a latte is often heavily sweetened and flavoured by different types of toppings: chocolate, vanilla, hazel nuts, etc. An alternative version of the latte may be prepared with soy milk or oat milk.

Latte is traditionally served in 200–240 ml cups.
